You Didn’t Build It

July 25, 2012

I would pick on obama but letting him speak in public is punishment enough! I just wish he would stop punishing us though. I am guessing by now you have heard his “you did not build it speech”.

So people that have worked 60 to 80 hours a week trying to get their business going did not build it, oh, it was the shoemakers elves coming in on swing shift that did it right. Is this guy for real? Let’s look at what he said.

I’m always struck by people who think, well, it must be because I was just so smart.  There are a lot of smart people out there”

Yes there are many smart people out there, and not all of them start a business. Some of the smart people purposely don’t want to start a business because of over regulation and over taxation. Those things aside being smart is not a requirement to start a business, so I guess he is just insulting smart people here!

“It must be because I worked harder than everybody else.  Let me tell you something — there are a whole bunch of hardworking people out there”

Yes there are a whole bunch of hard working people out there. But if they have not started or tried to start a business the number of hard working people out there overall is not relevant, so what was his point?

If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help.  There was a great teacher somewhere in your life

Yes people along the way gave you help, family, friends your life saving and bank loans possibly. And the banks, tax lawyers and accountants you hired did not do it for free just to help you, they were doing there job and making money.

As far as a great teacher goes, hey have you noticed how obama mentions teachers a lot? Look into who his teachers were, communists and socialists, hmm…  I wish I had a great teacher, part of the reason I quit school was because I was bored there, by Thanksgiving I had read all my text books for the whole year. It’s even worse now, they try and dumb everyone down to the lowest common denominator, and everyone gets a gold star. And don’t forget your parents either ran a business or worked to pay taxes that provided your education!

“Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive.  Somebody invested in roads and bridges”

Yes somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system, it was previous generations of great American business people that believed in themselves and their dream!

And what the hell does he mean by using the word “allowed”? Who is this that allowed them? No one allowed them to thrive, they thrived because of hard work, ideas and personal responsibility. And yes obama somebody did invest in road and bridges, the tax payers! If it were not for the people starting businesses that pay taxes, and hire people to work so that they also can pay taxes, there would be no road and bridges!

If you’ve got a business — you didn’t build that.  Somebody else made that happen

This is where in his narrative I really get lost, I wish he would have elaborated a little more, I was curious who that someone else is. I would guess the day after this speech there was a lot of business people trying to find that someone else to thank them for all they did.  I am guessing there was a lot of out of body experiences that day while they searched.

“The Internet didn’t get invented on its own.  Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet”

I am not going to get into the who created the internet argument, it was created by people with government funding and through several government agencies working together with private corporations. But it was not created by the government for the sole purpose of businesses to make money for the benefit of all. People seeing the new technology and it’s possibilities have made the internet what we know it as. They did that by starting small businesses on the web and creating jobs and helping to advance the technology further.
